Dear Friend –
Happy Holidays! Thanksgiving is a special time to practice gratitude and generosity.
As
we give thanks and count our blessings on this holiday, we must remember
that even though we are a nation of bountiful wealth, we still have
over 46 million people living in poverty.
That’s
why I demanded meaningful action on poverty from Congress last week.
America’s families have a right to the means to succeed and lift
themselves out of the cycle of poverty.
This
is also an opportunity to reflect on the increasing turmoil, terror,
and tragedy we’ve seen across the globe in the past year.
Last
week, I voted against a bill that would unfairly ban the resettlement
of needy Syrian refugees fleeing violence and chaos. These are
vulnerable people struggling to survive who deserve our compassion and
generosity.
Finally,
as you celebrate Thanksgiving, please remember to give thanks to our
brave service men and women who cannot spend this holiday with their
families while they serve our great nation abroad. We honor their
sacrifices that protect us and keep our nation free.
I hope you and your loved ones have a safe and joyous Thanksgiving.
Very truly yours,
Loretta Sanchez
Member of Congress
